MixTV
Literally putting live graphics into the palm of the presenter’s hand! The BBC used MixTV to great effect in the UK 2005 General Election
Forget about post production - Imagine putting live 3D graphics into a real set, allowing full freedom of movement and zooming of the camera, and even allowing the talent to interact with the live graphic. The live graphic can contain animation, live results, even video. MixTV is a bolt on module to tOG-3D that delivers just that.
All without any of the traditional costs or complexity of VR.
Pretty much all programmes can benefit from MixTV, it has already been used to great effect in:
- Childrens TV
- Elections, sports, any results based programmes where you want the talent to interact with the latest information
- Game shows and interactive TV
- Educational TV
Is MixTV Broadcast Quality?
Absolutely – it was even used by the BBC during its live coverage of the 2005 UK General Election. It has also been used on the popular BBC series “Body Hits”, “Child of our Time” and for analysis of team tactics for the 2005 UK FA Football Cup final.
So, just how does it work?
Running on the tOG rendering PC, MixTV analyses the camera image to determine the position of coloured marker objects. This is done in several steps:
- Chroma-key is used to separate the marker from the background.
- Edge and corner detection precisely locate the position of the markers in the image.
- The binary grid code is read to uniquely identify the markers.
- Mathmatical calculations convert the image position to a 3D world position.
- Position information passed to tOG-3D system to render graphics into the scene.
