Company History
Founded in 2004 out of a co-development project with BBC News, RT Software was established to sell and support its tOG-3D based real time broadcast graphics solutions worldwide. Its award winning founders have spent many years working for the Computer Graphics department at the BBC in the UK as both employees and contractors.
The pre-curser to tOG involved hard coding the graphics required for any programme. It was a natural evolution to want a tool that allowed the user to easily create graphics and reuse them as required.
There were existing tools on the market that provided this functionality. They all seemed to excel at certain tasks, yet be weak in others. They were also a premium price that seemed out of kilter with their functionality. In addition, it looked like purposefully written software with a "new from the ground up" approach would be able to take advantage of the emerging high performance PC hardware and graphics subsystems from nVidia.
Thus the decision in 2002 to embark on the development of a commercial release of tOG-3D. One of our key decisions in the early stages was to only work with nVidia, rather than try to be GPU agnostic. To date that decision has paid off as nVidia leads the field in PC based real time graphics hardware and we have traditionally been first to market with many graphics effects such as video in scene, projected textures and particle effects. With RT Software's support of the latest CG Effects framework from nVidia this leadership position looks set to continue.
The market has evolved significantly in the last few years, and there are a couple of companies that can help you with PC based real time graphics solutions. But, when it comes to choosing your solution, we believe that the creativity and vision driving our development team, backed up by a refreshing approach to licencing and licence pricing warrants a very close inspection indeed.
